Nicholas Van Orton is an extremely rich but incredibly bored businessman from the hills of San Francisco. He runs a high-ranking banking investment firm and has wealth ranging more than half a billion dollars. His 48th birthday is coming up, the same age his dad was when he jumped off of a building. And his little brother, Conrad, has gotten him the ultimate present. It's all a game, at least he thinks. He spent a day doing physicals and filling out forms, unaware of what he was about to venture into. And then it starts.
„Like Seven, the plotting is ingenious and intelligent, and although we think we know the arc of the film, it doesn't progress in a docile, predictable way; for one thing, there is the real possibility that the Game is not an ego-reduction program, but a death plot.“
Rodger Ebert
